example: I'm very lucky today! I aced the test this morning and i didn't study for it! 

Bend over backwards ( to ) exp. to expend a great deal of effort trying to do something 

example: I bent over backwards to get the last tickets for that concert. 

Blank out on something ( to ) exp. to forget something completely

example: I thought I was prepared for the test yesterday, but I blanked out on everything! 

Blow something ( to ) exp. to fail at something; to make a mistake 

example: I really blew that job interview! 

Broke ( to be ) exp. with no money

example: I can't go to the movies with you tonight, I'm broke! 

Bunch n. a lot 

example: Poor Sandra! She's got a bunch of things to do today!  

Call in sick ( to ) exp. Telephone to say that you are too sick to come to work

example: I can't believe that Jane called in sick again! She's gonna end up being fired! 

Check someone or something out ( to ) exp. to take a look at someone or something 

example: Hey! Check this out! This game is really excellent! 

Chick n. girl 

example: Hey! check out those chicks over there! They're really beautiful!! 

Cool adj. good, pleasurable, enjoyable, nice etc. 

example: Mathew's house is really cool! 

Cut it out! exp. said when you disbelieve or disapprove of something someone has just said 

example: Cut it out man! I'm not gonna call Jane to say all this bullshit! 

Drop in ( to ) exp. to arrive without notice 

example: Jane didn't even call, she just dropped in. 

Drown one's sorrows ( to ) exp. to cheer oneself up ( usually by drinking something ) 

example: Hey, man! I'm very disappointed about what happened today! I think i'll drown my sorrows on a big glass of milkshake! 

Dude n. man ( in general

example: Hello dudes! What you gonna do tonight? 

Dump someone ( to ) exp. to break up with someone 

example: After several years of marriage, Mark dumped her wife. 

Freak out ( to ) exp. to lose one's control 

example: Hey, I’ve got something to tell you, but promise me you're not gonna freak out. 

Get away with something ( to ) exp. to be successful in doing something dishonest 

example: Are you telling me that John got away with cheating on the test again? 

Get down ( to ) exp. to lose one's inhibitions 

example: When Carly starts dancing, she really gets down! 

Go for it! ( to ) exp. said to someone when you want to encourage them to do something 

example: You don't have to be afraid to do that! Go for it! 

Hit the road ( to ) exp. to leave 

example: It's high time I hit the road. It's getting late. 

Have the hots for someone ( to ) exp. to be sexually interested in someone 

example: I think that James really has the hots for Sara.

Show up ( to ) exp. to put in an appearance, to arrive

Ticked off exp. extremely angry 

example: That really made me ticked off

Up to something exp. in the process of doing something suspicious 

example: Steve has been smiling to himself all morning, i think he's up to something! 

Wimp n. a person who's regarded as weak an ineffectual 

example: My goodness! What a wimp! 

Yeah adv. yes, cool! 

example: Yeah! I know the girl you're talking about!
